L'AMARC souligne le 16 octobre 2008 la journée mondiale pour l'alimentation

Thème de 2008: La Sécurité alimentaire mondiale: les défis du changement climatique et des bioénergies.

C’est la Déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme de 1948 qui a reconnu en premier le droit à l’alimentation comme un droit de l’homme. Il a ensuite été introduit dans le Pacte international relatif aux droits économiques, sociaux et culturels (article 11) adopté en 1966 et ratifié par 156 États qui sont aujourd’hui juridiquement liés par ses dispositions. L’interprétation et la définition plus précise de ce droit, effectuées par des experts, figurent dans l’Observation générale numéro 12 du Comité des droits économiques, sociaux et culturels (1999). En 2004, le Conseil de la FAO a adopté les Directives volontaires à l’appui de la concrétisation progressive du droit à une alimentation adéquate dans le contexte de la sécurité alimentaire nationale – Principes directeurs sur le droit à la nourriture – qui donnent des recommandations pratiques sur des mesures concrètes à prendre pour l’application effective du droit à l’alimentation.
