Amarc celebra el día mundial de la alimentación el 16 de octubre 2008

Lema de 2008: La Seguridad Alimentaria Mundial: los Desafíos del Cambio Climático y la Bioenergía.

La Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos de 1948 fue la primera en reconocer el derecho a la alimentación como un derecho humano. Este se incorporó posteriormente al Pacto Internacional de Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Culturales (Artículo 11), adoptado en 1966 y ratificado por 156 Estados, que están vinculados jurídicamente por sus disposiciones en la actualidad. La interpretación técnica y la definición más precisa de este derecho figuran en la Observación General 12 del Comité de Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Culturales (1999). En 2004 el Consejo de la FAO aprobó las Directrices Voluntarias en apoyo de la Realización Progresiva del Derecho a una Alimentación Adecuada en el Contexto de la Seguridad Alimentaria Nacional – Directrices sobre el derecho a la alimentación –, que formulan recomendaciones prácticas sobre medidas concretas para aplicar el derecho a la alimentación.
