AMARC calls for the immediate release of Salam Mlik, director of Djerid FM and president of the Tunisian Community Media Union, UTMA

AMARC, the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters, expresses its solidarity with Salam Mlik, director of the community radio Djerid_FM and president of the Tunisian Community Media Union  UTMA, and with the journalists of the same radio, and calls on his Immediate release.
 
Mr. Salam Mlik was sentenced to 6 months in prison. On February 7, 2017 the police raided the family home of Salam, It was not the first time. Previously the police made other searches in the house, Salam's brother is presumed to be an "extremist ". During the descent of February 7, 2017, Salam's nephew (less than 10 years old) started filming the raid, the police pointed their weapons on the nephew, and Salam protested. This created tensions but according to his lawyer " ... without any violation of the law or any act of violence from Salam Mlik ".
 
"The imprisonment of a journalist a few days after World Press Freedom Day is a concerning act," commented Emmanuel Boutterin, President of AMARC, "especially since Mr. Mlik is not a criminal and he hasn't  committed any act of violence. We hope that the Tunisian government's security drifts will not result in restrictions against journalists and their willingness to inform citizens. "
