00:00

Picture Perfect is a 27-minute radio segment that focuses on the shifting concepts of motherhood and the diminishing value of women as they age. Host and producer Rose Marie Whalley interviews Dr. Andrea O’Reilly a York University professor on the topic of motherhood and Dr. Josie Dolan a retired professor of Communications on representations of women in the media.

O’Reilly discusses motherhood in relation to feminism, and speaks to current middle class parenting trends that value a competitive form of mothering. Dolan discusses how women are treated differently as they age, and using examples from cinema, shows that women are de-valued based on physical beauty as they age.
