International media organizations gather to ensure the security of journalists

At the invitation of UNESCO and several partners from the media sector, including the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC), owners, publishers and editor-in-chiefs will meet at the UNESCO House in Paris, Friday, February 5, 2016 on the occasion of an international conference aimed at sharing best practices on the safety of journalists.

This event also aims to provide a platform for discussion to news organizations. This platform contains the existing measures on the safety of journalists and aims at facilitating the emergence of new synergies through improved collaboration among Member States on these issues.

On this occasion, Francesco Diasio, Secretary General of AMARC, will moderate a round table discussion on "Security for Community, Regional and Local Media." Several international guests will speak on the subject. Including Bazlur Rahman, CEO, Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communications (BNNRC, Bangladesh), José Ignacio Lopéz Vigil, Founder, Radialistas Apasionadas y Apasionados (Ecuador), Fatemah Faragh, Owner, Welad Elbalad Media Services (Egypt), Adela Navarro Bello, General Director, Zeta (Mexico), Hassan Ali Gesey, Chairman, Somali Independent Media Houses Association (Somalia), Gabriela Manuli, Deputy Director, Global Investigative Journalism Network, Ginna Morelo, President, Consejo de Redaccion (Colombia). Ms. Courtney Radsch, Advocacy Director, Committee to Protect Journalists will act as Rapporteur for the meeting.
